US connections between 99 airports, graded A to F
“I’ve got 50 minutes in Chicago. Will I make it, and if I don’t, am I stuck overnight?” GateCast adds the odds to the layover time, and how long a missed connection would leave the traveller waiting.
In our test
Possible connections graded A ended in a missed connection about 7% of the time; graded F, about 27%.
Back-tested on about 1.23 million possible connections (estimated, checked 17 October 2026). “Missed connection” means real delays against an assumed transfer time; US DOT has no passenger records.
How GateCast works
Search, or check a connection you hold
Search flights, or enter the two flight numbers of a connection you already have.
A grade from a year of flight records
Each itinerary gets an A to F grade worked out from a year of US flight records for that weekday and season. That covers the time really available (getting off, the walk or train, any security re-screen, boarding close) and the wait for the next flight on the same airline (or its regional partner) if the connection fails.
Direct flights too
Direct flights are graded for lateness and cancellations.
Airport guides
29 airport connection guides add the layout at each hub.
Every figure names its source and dates; if we can’t source it, we leave it out.
Grades are checked on weeks the model never saw.
We rank places, never airlines. We are not owned by, paid by or endorsed by any airline or airport.
